Learning analog clock gets easier with this stunning Wooden Puzzle Clock from Woobiboo!
In order to hit such an essential milestone, NeuroToys highly recommends offering children this Wooden Puzzle Clock. Robust built of the mechanism allows kids to manually rotate hour and minute hands.
Such clock toys have a simple and playful design and are ideal in the introductory stage until about 8 years old. Children also learn to place sequences of numbers from 1 to 12, increasing their interaction during learning activities. Teaching time telling is not easy. However, children succeed to master such a sorting clock, if they exercise:
1) playfully, 10 mins, a few times a week;
2) on a regular basis and
3) in a structured manner using task cards or other visual teaching aids.
Consider two learning phases with the wooden puzzle clock:
PHASE 1 “Analogue-on-Analogue Practice”. A child has a task card with a visual display of time in an analogue format. The child’s goal is to replicate positioning of the hands onto the teaching clock as pictured. One can start this exercise closer to 5-6 years… and practice it for quite a long time.
PHASE 2 “Digital-on-Analogue Practice”. A child reads numbers (ex. 11:25, 16:05) on a printed task card and shows the right answer on the wooden analogue clock by rotating its hands. Between 8-9 years of age, one can/should introduce a digital format. By the age of 9-10 years, children should be able to differentiate the analogue and digital time-telling versions.
Do not forget to try auditory activities in time telling games. As an example, tell the time and let the child show the answer on the wooden clock.
