Learn different shapes with the “Geometry” Montessori Sorter from our Montessori wooden collection. The activity promotes visual discrimination along with eye-hand coordination. The child trains to associate objects based on their geometric shapes. It enriches vocabulary (to compare and describe objects), promotes early math skills and expands general horizons of knowledge.
The Montessori sorter has 12 basic geometric shapes. Namely, a circle, a square, a triangle, an oval, a hexagon, a rhombus, a trapezoid, a parallelogram, a semicircle, a rectangle, a pentagon and a star.
– Each shape has its colour.
– The activity promotes counting 12 objects, from 1 to 12.
– One could use 12 different shapes as stencils. Just trace them with an erasable pencil on paper and colour them. Why not draw a train, a car, a house?
– Challenge memory abilities with the Montessori sorter. Easy level: place 5 shapes in one row. Let the child memorise it. Ask the child to close his/her eyes. Meanwhile, remove 1 or 2 shapes. Now let the child guess the missing one(s). Intermediate level: encourage the child to memorise all 12 shapes. This time remove 3-5 objects. Advanced level: place all 12 shapes in a specific sequence. Let the child memorise it. Now, mix all the shapes into a pile. Let the child recreate the sequence.
It is essential for children to grasp the concept of the basic geometric shapes until the age of 2-3 years.
Side note: the colour combination of the “Geometry” Montessori Sorter (i.e., the colour of the puzzle pieces against the colour of the board) is selected for you randomly.
