About Boris Nikitin and his Legacy in Education
Boris Nikitin invented many educational games for his children. These games have not lost their relevance or their demand for more than half a century. They are played in Russia, Japan, Germany and other countries. These games are still a hit in kindergartens, in the practice of child psychologists and neuropsychologists, speech therapists, and at home.
How to play the Rainbow Circular Fractions of Nikitin?
The concept of fractional counting can be difficult for children to grasp. In addition to using a pen and paper, turn it into a tangible experience. Use conrete examples of how one whole circle can be divided into halves, thirds, quarters, and so on.
1. Discuss parts of each circle: one yellow half, one green quarter, one third of 3, one fourth of four…
2. Put fractions in one row. For example, from from narrower to wider, from smaller to bigger. Make a pile of fractions applying the same logic.
3. Which part is bigger: one fifth or one fourth? Place 2 fractions of different sizes onto each other to discuss the size difference.
4. The goal of the child is to complete the board independently, eventually.
5. Mix all the fractions and place them accordingly onto their circles.
