The Geo Sensory Shapes is a 12-piece sensory puzzle made of natural wood by Andreu Toys. The child plays with 4 geometric shapes, 4 different engravings and 3 sizes.
It is a great educational tool to promote tactile perception. The child classifies the geometric blocks by their size, shape and pattern. Namely, dots, circles, diagonal lines and straight lines.
Once the child knows the sensory puzzle well, play a game. Use a blindfold. Empty the board and pile up all the puzzle pieces on the side. Let the child, through touch, identify them and place them into the correct slots. Ideally, encourage the child to announciate what he or she feels for each piece: “What shape? What pattern? What size?”
If you have high-quality play dough that is light, stain-free and non-sticky, then integrate the geometric sensory shapes accordingly. A great way to experience patterns in action!
Side note: it is a beneficial learning tool for individuals with impaired vision, brain injury, sensory processing disorder, etc.
