3D Wooden Cylinder Blocks come with 18 wooden cylinders in 3 colours. Pre-schoolers explore and reconstruct up to 114 task cards. Parents and educational specialists can easily plan and stretch out activities between the age of 3 and 7 years. The size of each building block is 2.5 x 3.5 cm. Children learn spatial and logical reasoning.

During the introduction of the learning material:

❇️ It may take 3-5 or even more sessions to work through the concept together with the child
✳️ Articulate such words as “repeat the pattern”, “do the same”, “match the blocks on the card”, “duplicate”, etc.
When the child makes a mistake, do not point it out right away. Simply ask: “What is different?”, “Is there something different?” or ”What is wrong here?”, “Are they alike? How?”. The child eventually gets better and better to self-correct imperfections.
✅ Give instructions emphasising prepositions: “The red block should be on the blue block on your right. And now place the yellow cylinder behind the red one on the left”. Diversify your vocabulary with these basic spatial prepositions – on, under, next to, in front of, beside, against, behind, between, near, etc.

Independent play:

🔶 If parents have a system of toy rotations, then place 3D Wooden Cylinder Blocks on a tray accompanied by 2-10 task cards for a week
🔶 FYI: expect ups and downs in terms of engagement with the smart blocks. Sometimes, parents observe a daily interaction within 1 week. In the next rotation (ca. in 4-5 weeks), it may not even be touched. Yet, the goal of parents is to gently navigate interests and find or “catch” the right momentum of “readiness” of the child to absorb information. 😉

EDUCATIONALLY VALUABLE

Spatial awareness is a complex umbrella of cognitive skills. Yet, it is not an innate skill. Children develop it during smart play and exploration of the surrounding environment throughout childhood. Thus, it is important to provide children with intellectual learning tools to train spatial thinking. 3D Wooden Cylinder Blocks help to learn how to visualise objects from different angles. Additionally, children learn spatial verbs and prepositions that, in turn, lay down the foundation for mathematical, geometrical, and geographical concepts. Note, here we only shortly cover academic and intellectual benefits. The development of spatial perception is extremely important for social, motor, and navigational skills as well. But this is another topic for discussion.

Child neuropsychologists and therapists use 3D Wooden Cylinder Blocks quite often in their therapy with kids. Children check the task card, presented in a two-dimensional format. The goal is to reconstruct the patterns into a three-dimensional view. This sort of “mental rotations” occurring in the brain improves spatial reasoning skills through practice (Maier, 1994). If you notice, spatial awareness deficits and struggles, definitely seek a therapist. However, if it is only a matter of moderate corrections to meet age-based milestones, it can easily be administered through homeschooling in a gentle way.
